How To Paint Faux Weathered Stone

You lot can create the look of weathered concrete or easily on any surface by using Spackle or Stucco Patch. In this post I am sharing one more than way to create DIY stone end using a craft paint called Tommy Rock Paste and Coating.

Last week I shared a glimpse of some of the decorative items I used to pretty up the deck on the lake side of my house for the outdoor living season. Later I wrote that post, I went in search for more items to employ.

I had fun shopping the house, every room, nook and cranny to find stuff to place outside.

When fall arrives in 6 months, I can place them back in the garage. :-)

When I got the trio outside and placed them on the tabular array, I didn't like the false clay look of the plastic pots.

"Oh, well", I thought – "Back to the garage they become", only then I remembered I had received a new DIY paint to try out that is non like whatever paint I have ever used. It is a texture paint called Stone Paste that when used with different colored finishes creates all types of faux stone effects.

I idea mayhap I could make the plastic pots await like rock pots using the paint.

At that place have been a few times that I used weathered stone textured spray paint and textured spray paint for plastic on a few bloom pots, lamps and a few other items over the years, merely I accept never been happy with how the paint looks.

It ended up looking more like sand and overall the finish looked also even. Real stone has lots of variations in color and texture.

So I figured I had cypher to lose and went for it. I gathered the textured paint cease products I received and got to work.

In less than an hour I transformed the pots to look like rock and stucco. It was so like shooting fish in a barrel since you don't have to apply the paint perfectly. A messy application looks better.

How to Create The Look of Weathered Rock or Textured Stone on Any Surface

How to pigment a simulated stone look on a plastic flower pot using Tommy Art paint. The Rock Paste adds the layer of texture. Once dry, you tin can leave it equally is or add a layer of color coating over it to reach the look of real stone, rock or stucco.

supplies needed:

Tommy Art DIYPaint – Rock Paste
Tommy Art gray blanket – Dove Grey
Tommy Art Antiquing blanket – Gold Metal
Tommy Art Antiquing wax
Strong paint brush
Damp fabric or sponge

How to faux stone painting tutorial on plastic flower pots.

Using a stiff paint brush, spread the Rock Paste over the entire surface. Go out light or create heavy texture depending on your personal preference for a weathered rock advent. Let dry out completely.

two. Use a layer of colour over the Rock Paste. In that location are many colors to choose from. I used the Dove Gray blanket over surface, sponge some of it off immediately to create uneven color. Y'all tin mix the colors to get a truly custom color. Permit dry.

3. Pour a little bit of the antiquing wax and gold metallic paint onto a paper plate. Dip a sponge into the mix to selection upwards both colors. Apply to the entire surface dabbing up and downwardly. Make sure the blanket penetrates the textured areas.

iv. Use a damp cloth or sponge to immediately remove some of the antiquing coating. Remove unevenly for a more realistic rock-similar await.

five. Add together more or less of the antiquing coat until you get the stone effect y'all want.

The Rock Paste and color coating dry out very fast so you can apply whatever y'all added the stone effect to right away. It is very cool and the rock paste can be used in so many other creative ways besides creating fake rock finishes…
